We know what gets on shelf — and what gets passed over.

Buttermilk Creative is a brand and packaging design firm built on something most agencies don't have: years spent on the other side of the buyer's table.

Great packaging design doesn't start with a mood board. It starts with understanding why a buyer says yes.

We've sat in the cuttings. We’ve seen merchants choose the retail-ready product over one that tastes better but isn’t. That experience shapes everything we do. We don't design packaging to win awards. We design brands that are ready to sell the day they hit the shelf.

Shelf-ready means everything. There's a reason we talk about shelf-readiness and not just packaging design. The best brand in the world doesn't matter if it can't get placed.

When we say shelf-ready, we mean the whole ecosystem: packaging that meets retail requirements, shipper designs that protect and present your product, sell sheets that give your sales team what they need, and a brand identity that tells your story at a glance. On a shelf, on a screen, and everywhere in between.

Andy Kurtts

Creative Director

Andy brings a sharp, retail-driven perspective to brand and packaging design, shaped by years leading an in-house team at a national grocery retailer. From private label packaging to editorial design, his work has always been grounded in real-world performance. At Buttermilk, he leads creative with a buyer’s mindset—constantly asking the same question that guided his retail experience: will this sell? His approach balances strong conceptual thinking with practical execution, ensuring every design decision supports both brand storytelling and shelf impact.
